St. Joan of Arc is one of the most inspiring saints in the history of the Catholic Church. Although she lived over 600 years ago, her story continues to remind us that God can work through anyone, no matter their age, background, or circumstances.
Born into a simple farming family in France around 1412, Joan grew up with a deep love for God. When she was just thirteen years old, she began experiencing visions of St. Michael the Archangel, St. Catherine of Alexandria, and St. Margaret. They encouraged her to trust God and follow the mission He had prepared for her.
Trusting God's Call
As a teenager, Joan believed God was calling her to help free France during the Hundred Years' War and support the rightful king, Charles VII. Many people doubted her because she was young, had no military training, and came from an ordinary family, but Joan never lost faith in what God had asked her to do.
Wearing armour and carrying her banner into battle, Joan inspired those around her with her courage, hope, and unwavering trust in God. Although she was present on the battlefield, she preferred carrying her banner to using a sword and often encouraged soldiers to pray, receive the sacraments, and place their confidence in the Lord.
A Faith That Never Wavered
Joan's victories brought hope to France, but they also made her many enemies. She was eventually captured, imprisoned, and put on trial in proceedings that were unfair and politically motivated. Despite intense questioning and enormous pressure, Joan remained faithful to God and never denied the mission she believed He had given her.
At just nineteen years old, Joan was sentenced to death and burned at the stake on 30 May 1431. As she died, she asked for a crucifix to be held before her so that her eyes could remain fixed on Christ until the very end.
Twenty-five years later, the Church declared the trial unjust and officially recognised Joan's innocence. In 1920, Pope Benedict XV canonised her, and today she is honoured as one of the Church's greatest saints.
What Can We Learn from St. Joan of Arc?
St. Joan reminds us that God doesn't choose people because they're powerful or famous, He simply asks for willing hearts. Her courage came from trusting God, even when others doubted her or when the path ahead seemed impossible.
Her life encourages us to stand up for what is right, remain faithful during difficult times, and remember that God can accomplish extraordinary things through ordinary people who place their trust in Him.

Pray for us that we may have the courage to follow God's will with confidence and trust. Help us to remain faithful when life becomes difficult, to stand up for what is right with humility and love, and to remember that with God all things are possible.
